Adventure should give something back

At Atlas51, we believe travel is at its best when it creates a genuine connection between people and places.

The trips we sell take you into some of the world's most extraordinary environments and communities. We don't want those places to simply be somewhere you visit, photograph and leave. We want tourism to create value for the people who live there and help protect the landscapes that bring us there in the first place.

People

Local people should benefit from local tourism

We favour experiences delivered by people who know the destination because they live there, work there and are part of the community.

That means working with local guides, drivers, hosts, instructors, businesses and other people on the ground wherever possible. Keeping more of the value of tourism within the destination helps support local livelihoods and gives travellers something that can't be replicated from a standard tourist itinerary: genuine local knowledge.

Place

We are guests in every destination we visit

We want our travellers to experience places with curiosity and respect.

That means respecting local cultures, traditions, communities and ways of life, while avoiding the idea that destinations exist simply for our consumption.

We believe the best adventures create connection rather than distance between visitors and the places they explore.

Wilderness

The places we explore are worth protecting

Many Atlas51 adventures take place in remote and fragile environments — from mountains and wilderness to coastlines, forests and rivers.

We support responsible practices such as Leave No Trace, responsible waste management and minimising disturbance to wildlife and natural habitats.

We believe exploring wild places comes with an obligation to look after them.

Smaller. More local. More meaningful

We deliberately look beyond mass tourism.

Smaller groups and locally delivered experiences can mean a more personal adventure, a deeper connection with a destination and less pressure on the places we visit.

They also give travellers the opportunity to spend money with the people and businesses that actually make these experiences possible.

Our responsibility

We don't claim that travel has no impact

It does.

Our responsibility is to understand that impact and make better choices about the experiences, partners and destinations we put in front of our customers.

That means seeking out responsible operators, supporting local economies, respecting communities and cultures, and encouraging travellers to leave the places they visit with the same — or greater — sense of wonder than they found them with.

We want our adventures to leave more value behind than they take away. That is the Atlas51 approach to responsible travel.
